The wider service family are a very important population within the wider military community, and one whose contribution to our security and safety is often overlooked. Terry Butcher, patron of Combat2Coffee knows firsthand how much family members do to support both those actively serving and afterwards, post-service. After the loss of his son, Captain Christopher Butcher following his service in Afghanistan, Terry has made it to mission to support veterans and mental health and to make sure that the immense service and sacrifice from all of our service families are recognised and celebrated.

With this in mind he has worked with Combat2Coffee founder Nigel Seaman to establish his vision of ‘The Bigger Breakfast’. In 2025, the first Bigger Breakfast was held in Ipswich, mirrored by the MOD at Whitehall and attended by Alistair Carns, then the Minister for Veterans. It was a simple but effective way to bring the wider community together. It was such a success, with around 500 people gathering together to enjoy a sit down breakfast together in a marquee. In 2026 the team decided to do it again, but this time even bigger and better, inviting even more people to come together and celebrate!  Hire Safe Solutions was proud to donate £1,250 to help cover costs to make it happen, and sent three volunteers to help make the community breakfast happen.

The day was another spectacular success – this time with around 600 local service family, veterans, reserves, cadets, military bands and members of the wider community coming together to enjoy some time together. From setting up breakfast tables in the marquee, directing people to their places, supporting some of the service family and veterans through to helping to tidy up, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

More than just a meal, the Bigger Breakfast really is a chance to connect, show support and raise awareness of the challenges faced by those affected by military mental health, including the families who stand beside them every day.

We are looking forward to 2027!
