The Salford Foundation started as a small charity in Salford in 1989, and since then it has helped tens of thousands of people across Salford and Greater Manchester.
It believes that injustice, inequality and disadvantage still prevent many from overcoming challenges and reaching their full potential. So, as part of its mission to help more people and make an even bigger impact across Greater Manchester by 2030, we got involved with it’s ‘Kickstart Your Future’ Mock Interview programme for students, all of whom who will be facing important interviews for jobs, apprenticeships and further and higher education in the short to medium future.
For many young people, this is their first experience of participating in an interview. Students experience a ‘no pressure’, one-to-one interview, gaining valuable first-hand feedback and advice and ideas on ways to continue developing and preparing for a job or college interview in the future.
We really enjoyed meeting the young people in Year 10 at Altrincham College, hearing first hand about the experiences they have in both their High School and personal lives. It was great to be able to help the students identify what they already do that is a really positive attribute to a future employer, eg leadership skills from playing football, coaching younger children at their sport or the confidence and presentation skills that they have gained through singing, dancing and performing arts.
It was a really enjoyable and worthwhile experience for us and hopefully the students, and one that we hope to repeat to help more young people on their first steps towards the world of work.
