EMPOWER supports 15,000 registered members across two youth zones providing somewhere safe to go, something positive to do and someone trusted to talk to’. 76% of members live in the top 20% most deprived neighbourhoods in England, with 300 care-experienced members at Salford Youth Zone (5%) and 257 at Manchester (8% of members).

Addressing Holiday Hunger

It is thought that currently 3 million, or 1 in 5 UK children live in ‘food insecure’ households. The extra cost of food over school holidays is a struggle for many, and as a result many children go hungry. The Trussell Trust reports “concerning signs that the levels of hardship people are facing are deepening, and severe hardship is becoming entrenched in communities across the UK.”

As part of our social impact commitment to giving back to our communities, during October 2026 half-term we will partner with Salford Youth Zone and it’s sister charity, the Manchester Hide Out in Gorton. We will cover the cost of the week’s holiday club dinners for the approximately 750 young people aged 8-12, who will enjoy the safety of the charity’s fantastic facilities in a safe space, with adults they can trust to talk to.

There are15,000 registered members across the two youth zones. 76% live in the top 20% most deprived neighbourhoods in England, with 257 care-experienced members at Manchester (8% of members) and 300 at Salford Youth Zone (5%). 53% of it’s young people claim free school meals. This is a fantastic way for us to be able to support the most vulnerable of our young people, through a charity which creates a ‘place to belong’ – you can find out more in the video below:
